Steelbird Hi-tech to set up helmet manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 250 crore.

Thursday, December 26, 2024 – Steelbird Hi-tech India, a leading company supplying helmets to major automotive brands in india is going to expand its manufacturing capabilities with the establishment of a new plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The plant will have an initial capital expenditure of ₹100 crore with a total investment of ₹250 crore in the future.

Salient features of Steelbird Hi-tech New Manufacturing Unit.

  • Production Capacity: The Hosur plant has a capacity of producing 20,000 helmets per day in the first phase.
  • Employment Generation: The establishment of this unit is expected to provide direct employment to about 2,000 people.
  • Addressing the demand for helmets: Steelbird Helmets currently has a market share of around 40% in the branded helmet market of India. This plant has been set up with the aim of ensuring that there is no shortage of supply and continuity. Currently, India’s annual helmet demand is 100 million units while branded production reaches only 30 million units.

Steelbird Hi-tech New Manufacturing Unit Expansion Plans.

Steelbird Helmets new facility represents a significant addition to its existing manufacturing base, which currently comprises six plants in Himachal Pradesh and three in Noida. The company also plans to start a bicycle helmet production facility by the end of 2025. Steelbird Helmets plans to double its production capacity to over 10 million helmets by the end of 2024 from 8 million in 2023.

Strategic focus on South India

Demand for Steelbird’s helmets is increasing in South India, which is an emerging market for them. South India is expected to contribute ₹500 crore revenue to the company by 2030. Along with this, the company has set a total revenue target of ₹ 2,500 crore by 2030.

Heritage and Diversification

Founded in 1964, Steelbird initially specialized in automobile filters before diversifying into helmets and rubber components. Today, the company supplies helmets to leading brands such as Hero, Honda, Yamaha and Royal Enfield.

This strategic expansion reflects Steelbird’s commitment to innovation and meeting the growing demand for high-quality helmets in India.
