India’s First Silicon Carbide (SiC) Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility to be Established in Odisha.

India is set to make a significant leap in the semiconductor industry, with its first silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility being established in Odisha. The ambitious project, with an investment of ₹618.60 crore, received approval from the state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Wednesday.

A Strategic Move for Odisha

The project will be spearheaded by RIR Power Electronics Limited (RIR) and will be located at the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster Park in Info Valley, Bhubaneswar. The state cabinet has also approved a customized incentive package to support the venture, signaling its commitment to strengthening Odisha’s position in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

The facility is poised to drive industrial growth, foster the development of local supply chains, and create significant skilling opportunities for the workforce. It will focus on producing silicon carbide-based devices that cater to industries such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, railways, and defense.

Boost to Domestic Manufacturing

This facility will be India’s first compound semiconductor fabrication unit, marking a major milestone in enhancing the country’s domestic manufacturing capabilities. The project is expected to generate around 750 jobs, contributing to both economic growth and technological advancements.

Odisha’s Vision for the Future

The state government’s focus on semiconductors and artificial intelligence is evident in its preparations for the upcoming Utkarsh Odisha Conclave. Scheduled for January 28-29, this biennial investment summit aims to showcase Odisha as a hub for innovation and attract further investments in advanced technologies.

The establishment of this facility underscores Odisha’s commitment to becoming a leader in India’s semiconductor ecosystem. By fostering technological innovation and offering customized support to key projects, the state is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the semiconductor industry in India.
