Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu – In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy sector, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin officially inaugurated Tata Power’s state-of-the-art 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli. The launch event was graced by Thiru T.R.B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries & Commerce, along with Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD of Tata Power, and Deepesh Nanda, CEO and MD of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited.
India’s Largest Solar Manufacturing Facility
The facility, operated by TP Solar Ltd., a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, is now the largest single-location solar manufacturing unit in India. Equipped with cutting-edge TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) and Mono PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Contact) technologies, the plant is designed to produce high-efficiency solar cells and modules. These advancements will contribute significantly to India’s clean energy transition and self-reliance in solar manufacturing.
Driving India’s Renewable Energy Goals
The solar modules and cells produced at the Tirunelveli plant will initially cater to Tata Power’s ongoing renewable energy projects, with plans to expand into broader market distribution. This strategic initiative aligns with India’s vision of achieving energy security and accelerating its net-zero carbon targets.

The company also operates a solar manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, which was established in 1992 and has a production capacity of 682 MW for solar modules and 530 MW for solar cells.
