SOGNA, HARYANA – In a significant stride towards achieving self-sufficiency in electronics manufacturing a new state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery plant was inaugurated in Sohna, Haryana, on Friday. Operated by TDK Corporation, a global leader in electronic components, the facility is a cornerstone of India’s strategy to localize the production of critical components.
The inauguration was officiated by Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw. He emphasized the plant’s role in the broader national vision, stating, “Whether it is camera modules, PCB assembly, semiconductors, or batteries—every component will be manufactured in our country over the coming years. The arrival of such advanced technology in India is a major milestone for our self-reliance in electronics.”
Scaling Up to Meet National Demand
The TDK India lithium-ion battery plant Sohna Haryana manufacturing facility has been established under the government’s Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) Scheme. Its scale is monumental for the Indian market. With an annual production capacity of approximately 200 million advanced lithium-ion battery packs, the plant is poised to fulfill nearly 40 per cent of India’s total estimated demand of 500 million units.
These batteries are the essential power source for a wide array of modern consumer electronics, including:
