Tata AutoComp Systems officially inaugurated two state-of-the-art manufacturing plants in Sanand, Gujarat. This dual expansion brings the company’s total manufacturing footprint in the Sanand hub to eight units, solidifying the region’s status as a critical nerve center for India’s automotive supply chain.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by top leadership, including Arvind Goel (Vice-Chairman, Tata AutoComp), Manoj Kolhatkar (MD & CEO, Tata AutoComp), and Sudhir Chikhle (Chief Purchasing Officer, Tata Motors PV & EV).

The Two New Facilities

These plants are operated by specialized business units aimed at comfort and thermal efficiency:

  1. TM Automotive Seating Systems Private Ltd: * A joint venture with Magna International.
    • Focuses on advanced, lightweight, and modular seating solutions for passenger and commercial vehicles.
    • Features JIT (Just-in-Time) assembly lines to minimize lead times for nearby OEMs.
  2. TACO Air International Thermal Systems Private Ltd:
    • A joint venture with Air International Thermal Systems.
    • Specialized in high-performance HVAC systems and Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS).
    • These components are crucial for the next generation of Electric Vehicles (EVs) to ensure battery safety and range efficiency.

Strategic Rationale: The “Sanand Advantage”

Sanand has evolved into a long-term manufacturing hub that offers proximity to major customers like Tata Motors (whose major EV and PV production happens nearby).

  • Localization: Deeper localization of parts to reduce dependence on imports.
  • Resilience: Building a “future-ready” supply chain that can pivot quickly between ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and EV platforms.
  • Sustainability: The plants are designed with energy-efficient systems and a focus on minimizing the environmental footprint of component manufacturing.

Tata AutoComp’s Global Context (2026)

The company continues to be a Tier-1 powerhouse with a massive global reach:

  • Footprint: Over 65 manufacturing plants worldwide (US, Europe, Latin America, China, and India).
  • Workforce: Employs over 20,000 personnel.
  • Portfolio: Covers everything from interior/exterior trims and composites to complex EV powertrains and electronic control units.

“These facilities mark a significant milestone… Sanand provides proximity to key customers and a strong vendor ecosystem, enabling deeper localization and a more resilient supply chain.” — Arvind Goel, Vice-Chairman, Tata AutoComp Systems.
