In a significant boost to India’s “Make in India” push for electronics Syrma SGS Technology Ltd has begun constructing a new state-of-the-art Printed Circuit Board (PCB) manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. This move strengthens the domestic supply chain for a critical component found in everything from smartphones to electric vehicles.
The plant, being built in the Naidupeta Industrial Zone through its subsidiary Syrma Strategic Electronics, aims to produce a full range of PCBs from simple single-layer boards to complex multi-layer ones.
More Than a Factory: Jobs and a Joint Venture
This project is about more than just expanding capacity. It’s a catalyst for local growth, with plans to create over 1,000 direct jobs and support the development of Naidupeta as a new industrial hub.
In a strategic move to ensure world-class quality from the start, Syrma SGS has also entered a joint venture with South Korea’s Shinhyup Electronics (SH Electronics Ltd), a global leader in PCB engineering. This partnership combines Shinhyup’s technical precision with Syrma’s manufacturing scale and understanding of the Indian market.
Building a Self-Reliant Electronics Ecosystem
PCBs are the foundational “brains” of all modern electronic devices. By manufacturing them domestically, Syrma SGS is addressing a key dependency in India’s electronics sector, reducing reliance on imports and shortening supply chains for Indian brands and manufacturers.
The new facility is poised to become a critical node in India’s fast-growing electronics manufacturing ecosystem, supporting industries like consumer electronics, automotive, industrial automation, and telecommunications.
While shares of Syrma SGS Technology saw a slight dip on the BSE following the announcement, the long-term strategic importance of this investment is clear. It represents a concrete step towards a more self-reliant and competitive Indian electronics manufacturing industry.
