On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, during a major industrial summit in Khordha Luminous Power Technologies (wholly owned by Schneider Electric) reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Odisha into its primary hub for clean energy manufacturing in Eastern India.
The company is currently developing two mega-facilities that will allow it to pivot from a power-backup brand to a vertically integrated solar and energy storage giant.
The Gopalpur Solar Hub: High-Tech Upstream Production
Located in the Gopalpur Industrial Park, this facility marks Luminous’ entry into the complex “upstream” solar value chain, moving beyond just panel assembly.
- Integrated Production: The plant will manufacture Ingots, Wafers, and Solar Cells.
- Strategic Goal: By producing the fundamental building blocks of a solar panel (wafers and cells) in-house, Luminous reduces its dependence on Chinese imports and aligns with India’s ALMM (Approved List of Models and Manufacturers) mandates.
- Technology Focus: The line is optimized for N-type TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) technology, currently the global gold standard for high-efficiency cells.
The Angul Facility: Next-Gen Energy Storage
While Gopalpur focuses on generation, the Angul plant is dedicated to the “storage” side of the equation.
- Manufacturing Focus: Advanced Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and next-generation battery solutions.
- Target Segments: High-capacity batteries for residential “solar-ready” homes and modular storage for commercial and industrial (C&I) microgrids.
- Industry 4.0: The facility utilizes modern manufacturing technologies, including automated robotic assembly for battery modules to ensure long-term thermal safety and reliability.
Khordha Showcase: The “Connect X” Ecosystem
At the Khordha event, CEO Vivek Abrol showcased how these two plants feed into a unified consumer ecosystem.
- Generation: TOPCon bifacial solar panels that harvest energy from both sides.
- Conversion & Storage: High-performance hybrid inverters paired with long-lasting Li-ion and lead-acid batteries.
- Intelligence: The Connect X app, which provides real-time monitoring of energy generation and storage levels on a smartphone.
Economic & Regional Impact
The Odisha expansion is a cornerstone of Luminous’ broader ₹2,000 crore national investment plan.
- Employment: The two facilities are expected to create over 1,150 local jobs in technical and engineering fields.
- Infrastructure: The projects benefit from Odisha’s “plug-and-play” industrial infrastructure and supportive state policies like the Renewable Energy Policy 2022.
- Gateway Status: Abrol positioned Odisha not just as a factory location, but as a “gateway” to the rapidly expanding clean energy markets of Eastern and North-Eastern India.
“Odisha represents a strategically important market—not only as a manufacturing base but also as a gateway to India’s clean energy ecosystem. Our continued investments reflect our commitment to resilient energy infrastructure.” — Vivek Abrol, CEO & MD, Luminous Power Technologies.
