A major expansion is taking shape in India’s renewable energy and energy-storage ecosystem.
Luminous Power Technologies plans to invest approximately ₹2,000 crore over the next five years as it targets 3X business growth over the next 4–5 years, according to Business Standard.
The company is building an integrated clean-energy manufacturing ecosystem spanning solar cells, PV modules, lithium-ion batteries and energy storage solutions.
☀️ Key Manufacturing Investments
🔹 1.2 GW Solar Cell Manufacturing Plant
📍 Gopalpur, Odisha
➡️ First production expected from May 2027
🔹 PV Module Manufacturing Facility
📍 Rudrapur, Uttarakhand
➡️ The Odisha cell facility is planned to supply this module manufacturing operation.
🔹 Advanced Energy Storage Manufacturing
📍 Angul, Odisha
🔹 500 MWh Lithium-Ion Battery Assembly Line
📍 Baddi, Himachal Pradesh
➡️ Commissioned in January 2026 and designed to support battery packs, modules and stationary BESS applications.
🔋 From Power Backup to Energy Solutions
Luminous is increasingly positioning itself beyond its traditional power-backup business.
Its strategy is built around:
✅ Solar manufacturing
✅ Inverter & battery expansion
✅ Lithium-ion energy storage
✅ Hardware + software technology
✅ Residential rooftop solar
✅ Small C&I solar solutions
✅ BESS applications
The company is also exploring alternative battery chemistries such as sodium, depending on application, cost and safety considerations.
🇮🇳 Why This Matters for India
The investment comes at a time when India’s renewable-energy ecosystem is rapidly moving from solar generation alone toward integrated solar + storage solutions.
The Odisha–Uttarakhand manufacturing linkage is particularly interesting:
Solar Cells → Odisha → PV Modules → Rudrapur → Solar Solutions → Consumers
This could strengthen domestic manufacturing, supply-chain integration and India’s broader energy-transition ecosystem.
📌 Planned Investment: ~₹2,000 Crore
📌 Growth Target: 3X in 4–5 years
📌 Solar Cell Capacity: 1.2 GW
📌 Battery Assembly: 500 MWh
📌 Key Locations: Odisha | Uttarakhand | Himachal Pradesh
India’s next phase of renewable-energy growth may increasingly be about manufacturing the complete energy ecosystem—not just generating renewable power.
