Luminous Power Technologies officially inaugurated its first state-of-the-art lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery assembly line at its existing facility in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh.
This move marks Luminous’ formal entry into advanced battery manufacturing, shifting its focus from being a primarily lead-acid player to a full-stack “next-generation” energy solutions provider.
Production Capacity & Technology
The new facility is designed with high-end automation to ensure precision and safety in the high-stakes lithium-ion segment.
- Annual Capacity: 500 MWh (Megawatt-hours).
- Automation: Features advanced robotic assembly and precision-led manufacturing processes.
- Digital Traceability: The facility implements end-to-end digital tracking for every battery pack, fully aligned with the Indian government’s “Battery Aadhaar” requirements for lifecycle transparency and regulatory compliance.
Product Range & Applications
The assembly line is versatile, capable of producing a wide array of energy storage solutions:
- Standalone Battery Packs: Ranging from 1.2 kWh to 16 kWh.
- Scalability: System-level configurations can scale up to 1 MWh for larger industrial needs.
- Key Segments: * Residential & Commercial: Li-ion backup for homes and offices.
- BESS: Stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems for grid stability.
- Electric Mobility: Specialized automotive battery packs for the e-rickshaw market.
Strategic Context: The Luminous Roadmap
This inauguration is part of a broader ₹2,000-crore investment plan Luminous has undertaken to dominate the clean energy space in India.
- Solar Synergy: This facility complements the company’s 250 MW solar module plant in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand (inaugurated in 2024), allowing Luminous to offer integrated “Solar + Storage” bundles.
- Sustainability: The plant supports circular economy practices through planned battery recycling and component reuse programs.
- Market Position: With 7 manufacturing units and over 100 million customers, this move positions Luminous to compete directly with players like Exide and Amara Raja in the lithium-ion space.
“The inauguration of this advanced line reinforces our focus on localization and future-ready operations. It reflects how we are building technology-led ecosystems to support India’s evolving energy needs.” — Rajiv Ganju, Sr. Vice President, Manufacturing & Global Supply Chain.
