In a strategic push to capture a share of India’s growing defence market Lloyds Engineering Works Ltd (LEWL) has announced the formation of a dedicated defence subsidiary Lloyds Advance Defence Systems Ltd. The move is part of a focused plan to build an indigenous, high-tech manufacturing platform for the defence sector.
To power this new venture the company has simultaneously unveiled a series of strategic international partnerships spanning air, sea and land systems, aiming to bring cutting-edge technology to India.
Building a Tech-Powered Defence Portfolio
The new subsidiary will leverage several key international collaborations:
- Air Systems: A partnership with Poland’s FlyFocus Sp. z o.o. to introduce advanced First Person View (FPV) drones, complementing LEWL’s existing “Defender” drone program.
- Sea Systems: Definitive agreements with Poland’s Kliver Polska Sp. z o.o. for the design and prototyping of critical marine infrastructure, including towed reels for underwater platforms.
- Land/Civil Systems: An agreement with Italy’s Virtualabs S.r.l. for the development of cutting-edge radar technology applicable to both defence and civilian use.
- Naval Systems: A collaboration with Italian shipbuilding giant Fincantieri S.p.A. for the joint design and production of advanced steering gear, stabiliser systems, and thrusters.
Aim: Indigenous Manufacturing with Global Tech
The company stated that these alliances bring critical know-how to India. LEWL aims to combine this global technology with its own execution and manufacturing capabilities to support the nation’s goal of self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) in defence.
By creating a separate, focused entity Lloyds Engineering intends to develop a more agile and compliant structure to meet the specific long-term requirements of the defence sector, positioning itself as a strategic partner for India’s defence modernization.
