The European energy sector reached a significant milestone with the official opening of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sesvetski Kraljevec, Croatia.
This plant operated by the joint venture KONČAR – Transformer Tanks (KTT) is a specialized industrial response to the global surge in demand for power grid infrastructure.
A Renewed Strategic Alliance
The facility is the result of a joint venture established in July 2024 between two high-tech powerhouses:
- KONČAR (60%): Croatia’s flagship industrial exporter.
- Siemens Energy (40%): A global leader in energy technology.
This partnership builds on a legacy that dates back to 1995 with their first joint venture, KONČAR – Power Transformers (KPT), located in Jankomir. While KPT focuses on the large power transformers themselves, KTT specializes in the transformer tanks—the critical, high-precision steel enclosures that house and protect the transformer’s core and cooling systems.
Facility Specs & Industrial Impact
The new factory is engineered to handle the massive scale and technical rigor required for modern high-voltage transmission networks.

Strategic Vision: KPT1 & KPT2
During the ceremony, a live link to the Jankomir site highlighted the broader €260 million investment cycle aimed at future-proofing Europe’s energy supply.
- Project KPT1: Focused on optimizing current production and achieving an initial capacity increase to 30,000 MVA by 2027.
- Project KPT2: A massive expansion breaking ground in 2026, aimed at doubling total capacity to 45,000 MVA by 2031.
- Green Transition: Both projects prioritize “Smart Factory” principles and decarbonized production processes to meet the EU’s 2050 climate goals.
“Transformers are the backbone of the electrical grid. This facility will strengthen global supply chains and significantly accelerate the energy transition.” — Tim Holt, Executive Board Member, Siemens Energy.
