India to establish its first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Madhya Pradesh.

India has taken a major step toward strengthening its telecom manufacturing capabilities with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Government of Madhya Pradesh signing an MoU to establish the country’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior.

Spread across 350 acres, the plug-and-play industrial cluster will serve as an integrated hub for telecom and electronics manufacturing, R&D, innovation and advanced technology development, positioning Gwalior as a key destination for high-tech investments.

Key Highlights:
🔹 ₹493 crore central funding for Phase-I infrastructure development
🔹 Around 170 acres of land provided free of cost by the Madhya Pradesh Government
🔹 ₹12,000–15,000 crore projected total investment over time
🔹 Approximately 14,000 direct skilled jobs expected, with 3,500 jobs in Phase-I
🔹 Up to 50% capital subsidy (maximum ₹200 crore) for eligible investments
🔹 Employment incentives, skill development assistance, freight subsidies and R&D support for manufacturers

The zone will bring together the complete telecom value chain—from mobile devices, optical fibre and network equipment to semiconductors and next-generation 5G/6G technologies. Dedicated testing laboratories, certification facilities and R&D centres will support the development of globally competitive indigenous telecom products.

Leading companies including Dixon Technologies, HFCL, Tejas Networks, VVDN Technologies and Syrma SGS have already expressed interest in anchoring the ecosystem, while industry commitments of ₹3,500 crore were announced during the investor roundtable.

The Telecom Manufacturing Zone is expected to accelerate Make in India, reduce import dependence, strengthen domestic supply chains, boost exports and establish India as a global hub for telecom manufacturing and innovation.
