IBC to Establish Lithium-Ion Gigafactory in Karnataka with ₹390 Crore Investment.

International Battery Company (IBC), a TUS-based firm, is setting up a lithium-ion gigafactory in Karnataka with an investment of ₹390 crore. The facility will be located in the KIADB ITIR industrial area, Devanahalli, near the Foxconn facility, and is expected to commence operations within nine months, creating direct employment for 300 people.

Key Project Details:

  • First in India: The plant will be India’s first battery cell manufacturing facility, enabling local production and reducing reliance on imports from China.
  • Strategic Collaboration: IBC has partnered with Mahanagar Gas for setting up the gigafactory.
  • Production Scope: The facility will produce batteries for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and other vehicles, serving domestic and international markets.

Export and Economic Impact:

  • Exports: 20% of the factory’s production will be exported to the United States and European markets.
  • Economic Boost: Minister of Large and Medium Scale Industries, M B Patil, stated that the facility will strengthen Karnataka’s economy, advance its position as a hub for advanced manufacturing, and contribute significantly to India’s clean energy goals.

Vision for Clean Energy:

This gigafactory marks a significant step toward self-reliance in battery manufacturing, supporting India’s transition to sustainable energy and reducing its dependence on global supply chains.

IBC’s initiative aligns with the broader push for green energy, promising economic growth and technological leadership in the electric vehicle ecosystem. 🌍⚡
