IB Solar 4GW New solar cell plant in YEIDA : IB Solar to invest ₹3,000 Cr in a 4GW solar cell manufacturing plant on Yamuna Expressway. The project, near Noida Airport, boosts backward integration & aligns with ALMM norms.
GREATER NOIDA, UTTAR PRADESH – In a major boost for Uttar Pradesh’s industrial and renewable energy ambitions IB Solar (Integrated Batteries India) is set to establish a massive 4-gigawatt (GW) solar cell manufacturing plant along the Yamuna Expressway. The project, involving an investment of approximately ₹3,000 crore comes after the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) approved the allotment of 25 acres of land in Sector 8.
Classified as an “ultra mega” investment, this plant is a cornerstone of UP’s strategy to attract large-scale industrial projects and transform the zone around the upcoming Noida International Airport into a premier manufacturing and renewable energy hub.
Strategic Location for Domestic and Global Reach
The choice of location is a strategic masterstroke. The IB Solar 4GW solar cell plant Yamuna Expressway investment is positioned to leverage world-class infrastructure:
- Yamuna Expressway: Provides excellent connectivity to Delhi-NCR and key markets in North India.
- Noida International Airport: Offers unparalleled logistical advantages for importing raw materials and exporting finished products to global markets.
This strategic positioning will give IB Solar a significant competitive edge in both domestic supply and international trade.
A Move Towards Backward Integration and Self-Reliance
This investment represents a significant strategic pivot for IB Solar, which was previously focused on the production of solar modules and batteries. By venturing into solar cell manufacturing, the company is achieving backward integration.
This move allows IB Solar to:
- Control Production Costs: Bringing cell production in-house reduces reliance on external suppliers and improves profit margins.
- Ensure Quality Control: Managing the entire production line from cell to module ensures higher quality and consistency.
- Secure Supply Chains: Mitigates the risk of supply disruptions from third-party cell manufacturers.
Perfectly Timed with India’s ALMM Policy
The timing of this investment is crucial. It aligns perfectly with the Indian government’s directive to mandate the use of domestically manufactured solar cells under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) norms for solar cells scheduled to come into effect from 2026.
The IB Solar 4GW solar cell plant Yamuna Expressway investment positions the company to capitalize on this policy, which is designed to create a robust and self-reliant domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem by prioritizing Indian-made products in government projects and initiatives.
This project is more than just a business expansion; it is a significant step towards strengthening India’s photovoltaic supply chain. By adding large-scale cell manufacturing capacity, IB Solar is contributing to national energy security reducing import dependence, and solidifying Uttar Pradesh’s position on the map of India’s green industrial revolution.
