Goodluck India’s subsidiary secures license to manufacture 105mm to 155mm artillery shells. With 150,000 shell capacity, it boosts India’s defence self-reliance.
In a significant boost to India’s defence manufacturing capabilities Goodluck Defence & Aerospace a subsidiary of Goodluck India, has been granted a crucial industrial license under the Indian Arms Act, 1959. This license authorizes the company to manufacture a wide range of medium-caliber artillery shells, positioning it as a key private player in the country’s military-industrial ecosystem.
The license covers the production of all major shell sizes, including 105mm, 120mm, 125mm, 130mm, and 155mm. Notably, within the critical 155mm category—the standard for modern artillery—the company is approved to produce advanced variants like High Explosive (HE) M107, Extended Range Full Bore (ERFB), ERFB Base Bleed (BB), and ERFB Bottom Inlet Tracer (BIT) shells.
Scaling Capacity for National Security Needs
Goodluck Defence is establishing a state-of-the-art facility with an initial manufacturing capacity of 150,000 shells per annum, with plans for further augmentation. This substantial capacity is designed to meet the growing demands of the Indian Armed Forces and contribute to the nation’s ammunition stockpiles.
The company’s roadmap is firmly in place, with trial production scheduled to commence in the third quarter of the financial year 2026 (Q3FY26). This is expected to be swiftly followed by a transition to full-scale commercial operations.
A Strategic Leap for ‘Make in India’ in Defence
This milestone is more than a corporate achievement; it is a strategic leap for India’s defence self-reliance, often referred to as ‘Atmanirbharta’. By entering the complex and high-precision domain of artillery ammunition, Goodluck Defence joins a select league of distinguished suppliers capable of supporting the Indian Army’s long-range firepower requirements.
The move aligns perfectly with the government’s push to indigenize defence production and reduce reliance on imports. The ability to domestically manufacture a comprehensive range of advanced artillery shells enhances operational readiness, ensures supply chain security, and solidifies India’s position as a growing hub for defence manufacturing. This development marks a pivotal moment for both the Goodluck India Group and the broader Indian private defence industry.
