Karnataka has taken another leap forward in attracting global investments with German-based beverage and food manufacturing company Krones announcing the establishment of a state-of-the-art bottling machines manufacturing plant in Vemagal, Kolar district. The Rs 315 crore facility is expected to generate 550 jobs and is part of the Rs 10.27 lakh crore investment proposals signed during the Global Investors Meet (GIM) – Invest Karnataka 2025.
A Milestone for Karnataka’s Industrial Growth
The groundbreaking ceremony for the plant was held on Thursday, with Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil in attendance. Patil emphasized that the project reflects the state’s commitment to realizing the investment proposals signed during GIM. “Karnataka is focused on turning these signed projects into reality, and Krones’ decision to set up its plant here is a testament to our investor-friendly policies,” he said.
The Vemagal plant will significantly enhance Krones’ bottling machine manufacturing capacity catering to the growing demand for advanced beverage packaging solutions in India and beyond. The facility is expected to strengthen Karnataka’s position as a hub for manufacturing and innovation.
Focus on Local Development and Farmer Welfare
Minister Patil urged Krones to support the families of farmers who lost their land for the project by providing employment opportunities. He also suggested allocating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for local development initiatives. “This project should not only boost industrial growth but also contribute to the welfare of the local community,” he added.
Strengthening Indo-German Ties
The groundwork for this investment was laid during a delegation led by Minister Patil to Germany in December 2023. During the visit, Patil held discussions with Krones representatives and signed a preliminary Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the company’s headquarters in Neutraubling. This visit was part of Karnataka’s efforts to attract global investors ahead of the GIM.
A Boost for Employment and Economy
The Krones plant is expected to create 550 direct jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy. Additionally, the project will generate indirect employment opportunities in allied sectors such as logistics, supply chain, and maintenance.
Karnataka’s Vision for Industrial Excellence
Karnataka has consistently ranked among the top states in India for ease of doing business, and the Krones project is a reflection of its investor-friendly ecosystem. The state government’s proactive approach, including initiatives like the Global Investors Meet, has attracted significant investments across sectors such as manufacturing, IT, and renewable energy.
What’s Next?
With the groundwork now complete, Krones is expected to fast-track the construction of the plant. The facility is likely to become operational within the next few years, contributing to Karnataka’s industrial growth and creating a ripple effect in the region’s economy.
As Karnataka continues to attract global giants like Krones, the state is well on its way to becoming a preferred destination for international investments, fostering innovation, and creating sustainable employment opportunities.
