On February 11, 2026, Kolkata-based Jupiter International Limited announced the successful commissioning of its third solar cell manufacturing unit in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh.
This 1 GW expansion, developed through its subsidiary Jupiter Solartech Private Limited (JSTPL), effectively doubles the company’s total production capacity from 959 MW to approximately 2 GW. The project is a major step in the company’s bid to become a vertically integrated leader in the Indian solar ecosystem.
Facility Blueprint & Technology
The new unit, located in Katha village (Solan district), is engineered to meet global benchmarks for high-efficiency solar energy production.
- Technology Focus:Mono PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell).
- Why it matters: Mono PERC cells offer higher efficiency and better performance in low-light conditions compared to traditional multi-crystalline cells.
- Annual Capacity: 1 GW (Gigawatt).
- Job Creation: The expansion is expected to double Jupiter’s local workforce in Himachal Pradesh, creating a significant pipeline of skilled green jobs.
Strategic Roadmap: TOPCon and Beyond
Jupiter International is not stopping at 2 GW. The company has laid out an aggressive multi-state growth strategy for 2026 and 2027:
| Milestone | Location | Technology | Details |
| Baddi Unit IV | Himachal Pradesh | TOPCon | Setting up a 1.25 GW line for Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) cells. |
| Odisha Integrated Plant | Bhubaneswar | Cell & Module | An integrated facility with 4.2 GW cell and 3.6 GW module capacity. |
| Nagpur Mega-Project | Maharashtra | Full Value Chain | A ₹10,900 crore MoU to build a vertically integrated hub (Wafers to Modules). |
Industry Context: The $500 GW Goal
This commissioning aligns with India’s national target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. By scaling its domestic manufacturing, Jupiter aims to reduce India’s reliance on imported solar components, which currently face an 18% tariff under the updated 2026 trade agreements.
“The commissioning of Unit III at Baddi is a major milestone in scaling our manufacturing capabilities. This expansion reaffirms our vision of delivering world-class clean energy technologies that are ‘Made in India’ for the world.” — Alok Garodia, Chairman and Managing Director.
