In a significant boost to India’s aerospace sector Airbus has partnered with Mahindra Aerostructures to produce the main fuselage of its H130 helicopter.
European aerospace giant Airbus has awarded a contract to Mahindra Aerostructures Pvt. Ltd. for manufacturing the main fuselage assembly of the H130 helicopter, marking a major milestone in India’s growing aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
Strengthening India’s Aerospace Ecosystem
Under this agreement, Mahindra Aerostructures will produce the H130’s main fuselage assembly in India, which will then be shipped to Airbus Helicopters’ facilities in Europe. Production is set to begin immediately with the first cabin assembly expected to be delivered by March 2027.
This collaboration highlights Airbus’ long-term commitment to India, reinforcing its strategy to develop a comprehensive aerospace ecosystem in the country.
“We have a strategic plan for India, and we are implementing it to develop a holistic aerospace ecosystem across all dimensions: assembly, manufacturing, engineering, innovation, digital, and training,” said Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia.
“The H130 fuselage manufacturing contract underscores Airbus’ confidence in the growing industrial excellence of the Indian supply chain, which offers the right mix of competencies and competitiveness. We are glad to extend this bond with India through our latest association with our partner Mahindra Aerostructures,” Maillard added.
Expanding Mahindra’s Role in Aerospace
Mahindra Aerostructures is already a key supplier for Airbus, providing various parts and sub-assemblies for its commercial aircraft programs. This new contract further expands Mahindra’s capabilities, allowing it to manufacture larger and more complex aerostructures.
Airbus’ Growing Footprint in India
This partnership is part of Airbus’ broader strategy to enhance local manufacturing in India.
- In October 2023, Airbus inaugurated its C295 military aircraft Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Vadodara, Gujarat—the first such facility in the private sector.
- The company has also announced plans to set up a Final Assembly Line for the H125 helicopter, though the location is yet to be finalized.
