Adani Group Unveils Historic ₹63,000 Crore Energy Investment in Assam.

AHMEDABAD / GUWAHATI – In the largest private sector investment ever in India’s Northeast, the Adani Group will invest approximately ₹63,000 crore in two transformative energy projects in Assam. The investment split between a massive thermal power plant and a pioneering pumped storage facility is set to revolutionize the state’s power infrastructure and generate employment for tens of thousands.

The projects were formalized after two Adani portfolio companies Adani Power Ltd and Adani Green Energy, received Letters of Award from the Assam government.

Project Breakdown: Powering Assam’s Future

The investment comprises two distinct, large-scale initiatives:

  1. Adani Power Ltd (APL): Will invest ₹48,000 crore to build a 3,200 MW greenfield ultra-super critical thermal power plant. This facility is designed to provide reliable, base-load power to meet the state’s growing industrial and domestic electricity demands.
  2. Adani Green Energy (AGEL): Intends to invest ₹15,000 crore to develop two Pumped Storage Plants (PSP) with a combined capacity of 2,700 MW. These projects will act as giant batteries, storing energy to ensure grid stability and manage peak-time electricity demand.

A Catalyst for Regional Development

The combined projects are expected to create employment for nearly 30,000 people during the construction phase and sustain thousands of operational jobs thereafter. This investment far exceeds Chairman Gautam Adani’s February pledge to invest ₹50,000 crore in the Northeast, underscoring the group’s deep commitment to the region’s development.

“The North-East is emerging as a vital frontier in India’s growth story,” said Mr. Adani. “These projects will not only energize Assam but also catalyse progress across the entire northeastern corridor.”
