Adani Defence Commits ₹10,000 Crore to Power India’s Ammunition Revolution.

Adani Defence announces a massive ₹10,000 crore expansion to boost India’s ammunition production. Discover how this investment will triple capacity and strengthen national self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

In a massive push to bolster India’s defence manufacturing capabilities Adani Defence & Aerospace has unveiled plans to invest an additional ₹10,000 crore over the next few years. This new investment significantly scales up the company’s commitment, coming on top of the ₹5,000 crore it has already poured into its defence ventures.

This strategic move is aimed at dramatically expanding production across a wide range of critical ammunition and aerospace systems, moving the needle significantly towards the nation’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) goal in defence.

Building an Ammunition Powerhouse in Kanpur

The heart of this expansion is the company’s sprawling 500-acre facility in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. This campus is being transformed into a holistic ammunition manufacturing ecosystem.

Currently, the facility produces essential components like cups, cases, and projectiles for small-calibre ammunition, with an impressive annual capacity of 300 million rounds. However, the new investment will catapult its capabilities into larger, more complex ammunition categories.

Here’s a look at the upcoming capacity surge:

  • Medium Calibre Ammunition: Expected to be operational by January 2027, with an annual capacity of 8 million rounds.
  • Large Calibre Ammunition: Set to begin production early next year, producing 300,000 rounds annually.
  • Critical Inputs: To create a fully integrated supply chain, the company also plans to operationalise its primer and propeller plants by 2027. This reduces dependency on imported components and secures the entire production process domestically.

What This Means for India’s Defence

This expansion is more than just a corporate investment; it’s a strategic national asset. By tripling its investment, Adani Defence is addressing a critical need for self-sufficiency in ammunition—a vital component for military readiness.

The creation of a complete ammunition manufacturing chain, from raw materials to finished large-calibre rounds, ensures that India’s armed forces have a reliable, scalable, and domestic source of supply. This not strengthens national security but also positions India as a potential exporter of high-quality defence equipment in the future.

The move is a clear indicator that private sector players are stepping up as key partners in building a resilient and self-reliant defence industrial base for the country. This investment will not only enhance security but also generate significant skilled employment and advanced manufacturing expertise within India.
