On Friday, June 5, 2026, Kolkata-headquartered personal protective equipment (PPE) pioneer Mallcom India Limited announced the formal operationalization of its new ₹100 crore manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat.
The strategic expansion—born from a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat—marks Mallcom’s 17th manufacturing unit and its first major production footprint outside its traditional hubs in West Bengal and Uttarakhand.
Project Blueprint: Inside the Sanand PPE Hub
The plant is specifically engineered to bring highly complex rubber and polymer dipping technologies to India, establishing a high-volume domestic substitute for safety gear.
- Total Capital Outlay: Over ₹100 crore focused on automated production machinery.
- Workforce Scaling: Currently employs a workforce of over 200 people (approximately 50 direct and 160 indirect), with hard plans to scale this past 300 jobs by next year.
- Core Infrastructure Assets: The campus is equipped with:
- Advanced Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) and Polyurethane (PU) glove dipping lines.
- Heavy-duty injection molding machines for structural head protection.
- High-speed automated glove printing and online stripping systems.
- Target Core Products: Medical and industrial-grade NBR gloves, safety helmets, bump caps, and specialized high-dexterity workwear.
The DTA Move: Displaced Imports & Local Value Addition
The defining component of this launch is the establishment of India’s first Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) unit for Protech PU Gloves.
- Breaking the Import Monopoly: Industrial PU gloves have historically been a category heavily dominated by low-cost suppliers from China and other Southeast Asian nations. By fabricating these natively via a dedicated DTA line, Mallcom offers Indian industrial clients an immediate, locally certified alternative.
- Advanced Dipping Lines: The integration of an NBR dipping line featuring online printing and automated stripping facilities allows the factory floor to run continuous assembly cycles, boosting throughput while minimizing material rejection rates.
- Insulated Global Supply Lines: While Mallcom acknowledged a selective reliance on high-grade raw chemical inputs imported from Italy, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and Brazil, the final synthesis and manufacturing of the protective gear are now fully localized.
Enforcing Zero Liquid Discharge and Sustainability Standards
Reflecting a wider trend among new-age Indian factories, the Sanand unit has built environmental compliance directly into its layout:
- Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD): Glove dipping lines consume intense amounts of water. The installation of an on-site ZLD system ensures that 100% of industrial wastewater is treated, purified, and cycled back into the facility, leaving no chemical run-off.
- Biomass Energy Integration: The plant utilizes clean biomass pellets instead of heavy furnace oil to fire its thermal boiler systems, substantially dropping its carbon footprint.
- Ethical Auditing Compliance: The plant is structured to meet strict SEDEX-audited ethical manufacturing protocols, ensuring safe labor conditions that match compliance standards required by major European and American enterprise buyers (EN, CE, and ANSI certifications).
“Resulting from our MoU with the Government of Gujarat, our Sanand facility represents a significant milestone in our expansion journey. It reinforces our commitment to building globally competitive manufacturing capabilities in India with a balanced focus on innovation, sustainability, and strengthening indigenous production.” — Giriraj Mall, Executive Director, Mallcom India Ltd.
