On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Nara Lokesh, the Minister for IT, Electronics, and HRD, laid the foundation stone for Carrier Global Corporation’s new large-scale manufacturing facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.

This project is being hailed by the state government as a centerpiece of the “Golden Era of Investments,” marking a significant expansion for the US-based HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) giant in South India.

Project Blueprint: The Sri City Smart Factory

The facility is designed as a “Future-Ready” manufacturing hub, integrating Industry 4.0 standards to serve both local and global markets.

  • Investment: Approximately ₹1,000 crore, to be deployed in a phased manner through 2028.
  • Land Area: 39 acres located within the strategic Satyavedu constituency of Tirupati district.
  • Employment: Projected to create over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs.
  • Technology: The plant will be a smart manufacturing unit, utilizing advanced robotics and AI-driven systems to produce high-efficiency HVAC solutions.

Strategic Rationale: Why Sri City?

The choice of Sri City allows Carrier to optimize its logistical footprint in India, complementing its existing North Indian operations.

  1. Supply Chain Optimization: This unit complements Carrier’s manufacturing plant in Gurugram and its Global Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, creating a triangular operational base in India.
  2. Export Potential: Sri City’s proximity to major Chennai-area ports makes it an ideal hub for Carrier to export made-in-India products to Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
  3. Cluster Advantage: Sri City already hosts a massive ecosystem of electronics and engineering firms, providing Carrier with ready access to Tier-2 and Tier-3 suppliers.

Political & Industrial Context

The project is a major “win” for the TDP-led NDA government, which has been on an aggressive industrial push over the last 22 months.

  • Investment Momentum: Industries Minister TG Bharat noted that the state has attracted nearly 800 projects in the current regime’s tenure, signaling a return of major multinational corporations (MNCs).
  • Proactive Governance: Minister Nara Lokesh’s personal outreach to global tech and manufacturing leaders is being credited for securing this “big-ticket” investment.
  • Regional Development: The facility is expected to transform the rural landscape of the Satyavedu region into a high-tech industrial corridor, fostering local infrastructure and skill development.

“The Sri City ecosystem continues to attract global leaders. This state-of-the-art facility by Carrier will not only accelerate industrial growth but also create sustainable, high-value employment for our youth.” — Nara Lokesh, Minister for HRD, IT & Electronics, AP.
