On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Mumbai-based EV battery specialist Neuron Energy announced its strategic entry into the stationary power sector with the commissioning of a high-capacity Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing plant in Talegaon, Maharashtra.
Backed by a ₹100 crore capital expenditure, this facility marks Neuron’s transition from mobility-focused battery packs to grid-scale infrastructure, targeting the massive global demand for renewable energy firming.
The Talegaon BESS Facility: Technical Scale
The new 7-acre plant is one of India’s few dedicated facilities for “large-format” containerized storage, moving away from small-scale battery assembly to heavy industrial integration.
- Annual Capacity: 5 GWh (Gigawatt hours).
- Production Volume: Capable of delivering up to 1,000 containerized units per year.
- Automation: The facility features a fully robotic assembly line for cell-to-pack integration, thermal management system installation, and fire suppression grading.
- Modular Design: The units are “plug-and-play” containers designed for rapid deployment at solar farms, wind parks, and industrial microgrids.
Strategic Market Positioning
Neuron Energy is positioning itself to capture the “Middle-to-Top” of the energy value chain, moving beyond EVs into utility-scale stability.
- Revenue Mix: The company is targeting a balanced portfolio with 60% domestic sales (supporting India’s 500 GW non-fossil goal) and 40% exports to Europe and North America.
- Customer Segments:
- Solar & Wind Developers: For “time-shifting” renewable energy (storing midday solar for evening peaks).
- C&I (Commercial & Industrial): For peak-shaving and backup power in factories and data centers.
- Utilities: For grid frequency regulation and voltage support.
- Employment: The project is expected to create over 500 jobs across specialized fields like system integration, power electronics engineering, and technical services.
Synergy with EV Mobility
Neuron Energy is leveraging its existing R&D in Lithium-ion and LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistries from its two-wheeler and three-wheeler battery business to build these larger systems.
- Cycle Life: The BESS units are optimized for 6,000+ charge cycles, significantly higher than standard EV batteries, to meet the 10–15 year lifespan required by utilities.
- Safety Standards: The Talegaon units incorporate advanced BMS (Battery Management Systems) with AI-driven predictive maintenance to prevent thermal runaway in high-density containers.
“Our entry into grid-scale BESS is a natural extension. As renewable adoption accelerates, reliable and scalable storage will be the backbone of the power ecosystem. This facility enables us to build high-performance solutions for the global stage.” — Pratik Kamdar, Co-founder & CEO, Neuron Energy.
