In a significant move toward localized manufacturing, Germany’s BENTELER Automotive has expanded its presence in India by leasing 1.36 lakh sq ft of additional space at the Horizon Industrial Park in Chakan, Pune.
This expansion, announced on January 8, 2026, builds upon BENTELER’s existing facility in the same park, bringing its total operational footprint to approximately 2.64 lakh sq ft.
Strategic Goal: Ending Import Dependence
The newly leased facility is designed for a specific strategic shift: the in-house production of tubes for torsion beams.
- Localization: Previously, these specialized tubes were entirely imported. By manufacturing them in Pune, BENTELER will feed them directly into its existing Chakan plant to produce rear axle beams.
- Efficiency: The move is expected to drastically reduce lead times and provide the company with greater control over its production timelines for major Indian and global OEMs.
- Make in India: This investment aligns with the Indian government’s push for high-value manufacturing and local value addition in the automotive sector.
Facility and Financial Highlights
The new facility is part of the Horizon Industrial Park Chakan II, a portfolio asset of the Blackstone-backed logistics platform.
