Greenply Industries launches a ₹600 Cr integrated wood panel plant in Odisha’s Koraput. Boosting ‘Make in India’, it promises 1200+ jobs, sustainable agroforestry & economic growth for the region.

In a significant boost to Odisha’s industrial landscape and India’s manufacturing sector Greenply Industries Ltd a leader in the interior infrastructure space has virtually inaugurated its new state-of-the-art integrated wood panel manufacturing facility in the Semiliguda Industrial Area of Koraput district, Odisha.

The project was launched in Bhubaneswar in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi and Industries Minister Shri Sampad Chandra Swain marking a key partnership between the corporation and the state government.

A Strategic Investment in “Make in India”

Developed through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Greenply Sandila Private Limited, the Semiliguda project represents a massive investment exceeding ₹600 crore. This initiative is a concrete step towards realizing the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), focusing on enhancing domestic manufacturing quality and capacity.

Shri Rajesh Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director of Greenply Industries Ltd, emphasized the state’s crucial role, stating, “This project is a major step forward for us, enabled by the state’s support in land allotment, single-window approvals, and clearances.” He added that the new plywood and MDF (Medium-Density Fibreboard) facilities would “create employment opportunities and foster agroforestry-based growth, delivering value to both local communities and the industry.”

Driving Economic Development and Job Creation

The new plant’s impact extends far beyond manufacturing. It is poised to be a significant economic driver for the Koraput region:

  • Employment Generation: The project is expected to create over 1,200 direct jobs and numerous indirect opportunities in logistics, support services, and local vending.
  • Boosting Local SMEs: It will support local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and suppliers, integrating them into a larger supply chain.
  • Skill Development: The company plans to initiate skill-building programmes, enhancing the employability of the local workforce for long-term regional development.

A Model of Sustainable and Responsible Manufacturing

True to its core values, Greenply is anchoring this expansion in sustainability. The Koraput facility is strategically located near plantation-grown timber sources, ensuring a sustainable raw material supply and minimizing the environmental footprint.

This aligns with Greenply’s longstanding commitment to structured agroforestry. The company has already planted a staggering over 75 million seedlings across more than 1,00,000 acres near its manufacturing plants. This initiative:

  • Creates a steady, sustainable raw material pipeline.
  • Increases income for farmers involved in the plantation programs.
  • Actively contributes to India’s national goal of achieving 33% green cover.
  • Paves a carbon-neutral growth path for the industry.

Strengthening a Leadership Position

This new facility strengthens Greenply’s position as one of India’s largest interior infrastructure companies. With a product portfolio encompassing plywood, MDF, blockboards, flush doors, and decorative veneers, Greenply boasts a extensive network across India.

The company is also known for its industry-first initiatives, such as launching India’s first E-Zero emission plywood and publishing the sector’s first sustainability report, cementing its reputation as a leader in responsible manufacturing.

The Odisha plant is not just a manufacturing unit; it is a testament to a business model where industrial growth, community development, and environmental stewardship go hand-in-hand.
