Hyderabad Greenlights ₹5,942 Crore H-CITI Infrastructure Projects to Address Traffic and Urban Development.

Hyderabad, December 2024: The Telangana State Government has granted administrative approval for a massive ₹5,942 crore under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) initiative. This ambitious project, spearheaded by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), aims to revolutionize the city’s urban infrastructure and alleviate traffic congestion through 23 transformative projects encompassing 32 works across five packages.

H-CITI: A Comprehensive Infrastructure Initiative

The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Department officially sanctioned the H-CITI projects on Thursday, providing a framework to tackle critical urban challenges. The initiative is based on an extensive traffic study conducted by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and focuses on improving arterial routes and decongesting key junctions.

Key Components of H-CITI Projects

  1. Grade Separators and Flyovers:
Construction of flyovers and grade separators to streamline traffic flow at critical junctions.
  2. Road Under Bridges (RuBs) and Road Over Bridges (RoBs):
Enhancing connectivity by creating seamless road networks, especially near railway lines and busy intersections.
  3. Pedestrian-Oriented Infrastructure:
Development of pedestrian-friendly spaces, ensuring safe and efficient movement for commuters.
  4. Tunnel Corridors:
Introducing tunnel corridors for high-traffic zones to reduce bottlenecks and support faster vehicular movement.
  5. Stormwater Drainage Systems:
Upgrading stormwater infrastructure to address waterlogging and enhance urban resilience during monsoons.

Execution Under the EPC Model

The H-CITI projects will be implemented using the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model to ensure efficient and timely execution. GHMC will simultaneously focus on:

  • Land Acquisition: Fast-tracking land procurement to prevent project delays.
  • Utility Shifting: Relocating utilities in coordination with project timelines.
  • Grounding of Works: Ensuring early initiation of construction activities to minimize disruption.

Quality Assurance and Supervision

To maintain world-class standards, Project Management Consultant (PMC) agencies will be engaged through separate tenders. These agencies will oversee quality assurance and provide supervision for each project, ensuring adherence to timelines and specifications.

Significance of H-CITI for Hyderabad’s Urban Landscape

The H-CITI initiative represents a strategic push to:

  • Decongest Arterial Routes: Reducing travel time and improving road efficiency.
  • Boost Economic Growth: Creating robust infrastructure to attract investments and support urban expansion.
  • Enhance Commuter Experience: Prioritizing pedestrian safety and smoother vehicular movement.
  • Future-Proof the City: Building resilient systems to cater to the demands of a growing urban population.

Conclusion

The ₹5,942 crore H-CITI projects mark a significant milestone in Hyderabad’s journey toward becoming a global city with state-of-the-art infrastructure. By addressing critical urban challenges and implementing cutting-edge solutions, the Telangana government and GHMC aim to transform Hyderabad into a model city for sustainable urban development and modern mobility solutions.
