India is moving beyond semiconductor fabs to build a complete, globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem.
Under Semicon 2.0, the Government of India has outlined a broader strategy covering:
🔹 ₹1 lakh crore in investment commitments already received
🔹 Nearly 1 lakh new employment opportunities expected across the ecosystem
🔹 200 semiconductor design start-ups targeted
🔹 1 lakh technicians to be trained over the next five years
🔹 Expansion of fabs and advanced packaging capabilities
🔹 Development of domestic equipment, materials, gases, chemicals and precision manufacturing
🔹 Stronger industry–academia collaboration in R&D and talent development
The ecosystem is also seeing significant industry activity, including a proposed 363-acre semiconductor vendor park in Dholera, Gujarat, along with new collaborations covering wafer manufacturing, advanced packaging, semiconductor materials, equipment and workforce development.
The bigger opportunity is not limited to chip manufacturing.
A strong semiconductor ecosystem can create demand across precision engineering, industrial automation, specialty chemicals, electronic materials, cleanrooms, utilities, equipment manufacturing, logistics and high-end engineering services.
With SEMICON India 2026 bringing together more than 600 participating companies and representatives from 52 countries, India’s semiconductor ecosystem is increasingly becoming an important industrial investment opportunity.
📌 The next phase of India’s semiconductor growth will be about building the ecosystem around the chip.
