ECDS (a firm specializing in sustainable development technologies) announced its entry into the Indian market with a ₹780 crore medical equipment manufacturing unit in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.
This project is a 50:50 joint venture between ECDS and three South Korean companies (including biomedical specialist CUBEBIO), marking a significant high-tech addition to the Vikram Udyogpuri Medical Device Park.
Project BRAVO: Ujjain Medical Hub
The facility will focus on the early detection of critical chronic diseases using non-invasive methods and advanced materials.
- Core Products: Diagnostic kits for cancer (specifically urine-based early detection), kidney disease, and diabetes.
- Technology Edge: The plant will utilize nanofiber technology and biomass polymer technology for high-precision testing.
- Timeline & Employment: * Phase 1: Construction begins in 2026; production starts by April 2027.
- Jobs: Direct employment for approximately 500 people initially.
- Future Capex: An additional ₹1,250 crore is planned for Phase 2 within three years of starting operations.
AI for Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2028
Beyond manufacturing, ECDS has leveraged its presence in Ujjain to propose a major technological partnership for the city’s upcoming spiritual mega-event.
- Proposal: Using cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) for real-time crowd management.
- Context: The state government expects nearly 2 crore visitors daily during the month-long Simhastha in 2028.
- Tech Scope: Integrated surveillance, predictive analytics for “crush zones,” and AI-based monitoring to ensure pilgrim safety across the newly developed ghats of the Shipra River.
The Vikram Udyogpuri Ecosystem
Ujjain is rapidly transforming into a healthcare manufacturing powerhouse. According to MPIDC data from late 2025:
- Medical Device Park: 15.60 acres have been earmarked for the ECDS project (with 1.5 acres already acquired).
- Industrial Scale: Over 11 major firms have pledged investments exceeding ₹600 crore at this location in the last quarter alone.
- Infrastructure: The park is part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), featuring smart city infrastructure like treated water supply and centralized solid waste systems.
“Ujjain’s strategic location and the state’s supportive policies made it our first choice for India. Our goal is to make early cancer diagnosis as simple and accessible as a common urine test.” — Rajesh Bharadwaj, Director, ECDS Indian Branch.
